[ARCHIVED] Petersburg Area Transit to Engage Riders on Transportation Priorities

Petersburg Area Transit to Engage Riders on Transportation Priorities

PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA:  Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) will accept survey responses from riders and nonriders until October 31, 2018. Surveys will assist PAT in developing its Transportation Development Plan (TDP).   All survey entrances will be entered to win a gift card to Wal-Mart.  The survey may be found on the City website or by going to Paper copies may also be obtained at PAT Multi-Model Center 100 W. Washington Street. “Mass Transit is a driving force behind successful economic development in the City of Petersburg.  I look forward to hearing from both riders and none riders on how PAT may improve services,” said Aretha R. Ferrell-Benavides, City Manager.

The TDP will identify the need and required resources to enhance transportation services over the next 10 years.  The plan will include an analysis in areas such as financial resources, programming, capital needs and fee structures.  The plan will also study current bus routes, which have not changed in almost 35 years.   “A change in our bus routes is long overdue, transportation must reflect the needs of our residents and businesses. This has certainly changed in the last 30 years,” said Charles Koonce, Jr. Director of Mass Transit.

PAT currently serves residents, businesses and visitors of Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Richmond and the surrounding counties of Prince George and Dinwiddie and provides 521,000 fixed route trips and 10,311 paratransit trips yearly.   PAT also offers connections to downtown Richmond, McGuire Veteran Medical Center, MCV/VCU Medical Center, Amtrak and the greater United States via Greyhound from the Petersburg Multimodal Station.

The Transportation Development Plan required update is fully funded and developed through the support of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation's allocation of federal Section 5304 public transportation planning funds.
