Petersburg Residents prepare for Hurricane Florence


In anticipation of Hurricane Florence, we strongly encourage you to assemble an emergency preparation kit for your household. 

Kit Items including:
- Batteries and flashlights/lanterns
- Bottled water (1 gallon per person, per day)
- Cash (power outages could affect ATM machines)
- Non-perishable food
- First aid kit, medications and hygiene items
- Vehicle phone charger

Storm Tracking:

Forecasts call for heavy rain from Thursday into the weekend. Stay tuned to local news broadcasts for further weather updates. Take heed of all resources included below. Continuous updates will be made through this page, as well as, the City's social media channels and through the emergency alert system. 


Ahead of the expected rainfall, the Department of Public Works is continually cleaning gutters and clearing drainage and has also relocated prime equipment away from flood areas.

Emergency Shelter:

At this time, the City has not opened a shelter, but is prepared to open one should the need arise. 

If activated, the shelter location is Vernon Johns Middle School (3101 Homestead Dr, Petersburg, VA 23805). 


Petersburg Area Transit will provide transportation in the event the shelter is opened. VIEW BUS STOPS HERE


Petersburg City Public Schools: 

On Friday, Sept. 14, Petersburg schools & school offices will be closed and all activities will be canceled. All school weekend activities are canceled.


Greyhound

Greyhound has suspended services south of Richmond on I-95 effective September 12, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. This will affect the Greyhound stop at Petersburg Area Transit Multi-Modal Station.


Petersburg Freedom Support Center

The Freedom Support Center is unable to render services to clients on Thursday, September 13th and Friday, September 14th as providers will not be available.


Dogwood Trace Golf Course

Dogwood Trace will be closed all day on Saturday and Sunday all day. The course will reopen on Monday, September 17th.
