The City of Petersburg's 2nd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade will take place on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. This event will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday as a National Day of Service. The parade will begin on Pocahontas Island, then cross the MLK, Jr. Bridge going into Petersburg, and continuing up to Washington St. making a right onto Washington St., going up to the Petersburg Public Library.
“This special day honors the life and legacy of Dr. King, whose leadership in the civil rights movement and dedication to achieving racial equality through nonviolent means have left an enduring impact”, said Sheriff Crawford. Established as a federal holiday in 1983 and first observed on January 20, 1986, Martin Luther King Day has become a time to reflect on his work and engage in service that strengthens our communities.
Our Parade Marshall is the Honorable Judge from Petersburg, Judge Roger Gregory.
We would like to invite others to join us in this meaningful celebration by participating in the parade. They may do so by contacting Sheriff Vanessa Crawford at 804-733-2369.
