CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD (ROUTE 36) IN THE CITY OF PETERSBURG
Drivers should follow the posted detour
Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the bridge over the Appomattox River Canal on University Boulevard (Route 36) in Petersburg, beginning Wednesday, May 3 for a bridge replacement project. The bridge will re-open in late Fall 2023.
Parking facilities for Patton Park and access to the Appomattox River Trail at the University Boulevard Trailhead will remain open and accessible throughout the bridge replacement project.
Drivers should follow the posted detour route, listed below:
Northbound- Take University Blvd. to N. South St., left onto W. Wythe St., left onto S. Adams St., left onto Dupuy Ave./E. River Rd., left onto Chesterfield Ave.
Southbound- Take Chesterfield Ave., right onto E. River Rd., right onto Boulevard/N. Adams St., right onto E. Washington St., right onto N. South St. to University Blvd.
