[ARCHIVED] Bon Secours Virginia Health System Begins Construction on New Healthcare Center in Petersburg

Petersburg welcomes Bon Secours Virginia Health System to the area with a new health facility that will be located at the Freedom Support Center. The Freedom Support Center is located at 32 W. Washington Street. The center will be called Bon Secours Freedom Healthcare Associates and will specialize in family medicine and provide primary care.

“It is an honor to welcome Bon Secours’ newest medical center to Petersburg,” said City Manager William E. Johnson III. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our community more health care services by collaborating with local, state and federal partners and the community. Bon Secours Freedom Healthcare Associates represents a symbol of progress for Petersburg and will be a major driver for jobs and economic growth.”

Construction on the 5,000-sq.-foot facility began on Monday, September 29 and expected completion is December 2014.

“Bon Secours cares deeply about soldiers and their families,” said Peter J. Bernard, CEO, Bon Secours Virginia Health System. “As a faith-based, nonprofit health care system, we see our role in the Freedom Support Center as an extension of our mission to serve those in need and to build healthy communities.”

Bon Secours’ health care initiative within the Freedom Support Center will be designed to meet the medical needs of active duty and retired military personnel, their families, and the Petersburg community at large. The creation of this new health care center is in partnership with the City of Petersburg and Fort Lee, and it will be Bon Secours’ first primary care presence in Petersburg.

The Bon Secours clinic will include primary care physicians, specialists, preventive care, chronic disease management programs, and nutrition and health education programs such as healthy cooking classes.

“Building the Bon Secours Freedom Healthcare Associates facility within the Freedom Support Center is about providing great, quality health care and service to the community in which we live,” said Councilman W. Howard Myers. “City Council and I are excited to be successfully accomplishing another major victory for our residents of Petersburg.”

The Freedom Support Center is a one-stop resource center for military personnel, veterans and their

families. This initiative comes out of the Office of Councilman W Howard Myers and is approved by his colleagues on City Council. Please call (804) 451-0205 for more information.
