City of Petersburg Names Director of Social Services

The City of Petersburg is pleased to announce William D'Aiuto as the newly appointed Director of Social Services. With a wealth of experience and a proven track record in social service programs, D'Aiuto joins Petersburg from the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS), where he most recently served as the Eastern Regional Director supporting 23 local Department of Social Services.

Prior to his tenure with VDSS, he served as the Associate Commissioner for Operations for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. During his tenure in Texas, D'Aiuto provided executive-level leadership to a team of over 7,000 professionals dedicated to supporting eligibility operations for crucial programs such as SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and in-home support services for the elderly and disabled.

"Social Services plays a vital role in Petersburg, serving a significant portion of our residents,” said City Manager March Altman. “Mr. D'Aiuto's extensive experience and expertise align closely with the social needs of our community, making him an ideal candidate for this position."

D'Aiuto brings with him a career spanning 27 years with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), where he held various roles, including Chief Innovation Officer. Notably, he played a pivotal role in implementing the nation's largest Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program during the recovery efforts following Hurricane Irma, demonstrating his ability to lead in challenging situations.

"I am eager to collaborate with the Petersburg community and local leaders to address the diverse social needs and challenges," said William D'Aiuto. "As Petersburg continues to grow, I am committed to leading a dedicated team that provides essential services to those in the city who require support."

D'Aiuto, who holds a Master of Science in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Florida, will assume his new responsibilities as Director of Social Services in Petersburg on July 15, 2024.
