Deposit Policy

1. Deposit is not required if either of the following applies:

a. Current customer and account(s) have not appeared on the penalty assessment list during the 12 months prior to the date of application for service.
b. Previous customer and account(s) were closed less than 12 months prior to the date of application for service and previous account(s) did not appear on the penalty assessment list for the last 12 months of previous service.

2. Deposit is required if any of the following applies:

a. Current customer has not satisfied (10) consecutive timely payments required on current account(s).
b. Current customer has appeared on penalty assessment during the 12 months prior to the date of application of service.
c. Previous customer and account was closed over 12 months prior to the date of the application for service.
d. New customer and has not had previous service with the City of Petersburg.

All deposits are refundable at the customer's request after 10 consecutive payments that are made on time with no penalties and/or cut-offs.

If the account is closed out, the deposit will be applied to the final bill. A refund is made, if the final bill does not exceed the deposit.


If a deposit is deemed necessary, the amount of the deposit is based on meter size and/or number of dwelling units. 5/8", 3/4", and 1" 75.00
