In partnership with the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority the City offers Refuse Collection to residents once a week. Refuse must be contained within the carts distributed or 30 gallon plastic bags. You may NOT use other containers for refuse collection. If the problem persists your service may be terminated. Regular occurrences of excess waste exterior to the cart will require an additional cart. You may obtain an additional cart by calling the CVWMA Refuse Hotline at (804) 425-0500.

If commercial accounts are unable to abide by the rules and regulations of our residential service, you may be required to contract with the private sector for refuse collection and disposal services.

Twice per week collection is provided by the City in the Old Towne Area, N. Market St., Washington St., Madison St., and River St. border the area. Collection days are Tuesday and Thursday. For questions regarding service in this area call (804) 733-2415.

If refuse is not collected on the scheduled day please call 425-0500; however there may be a delay in pick up after holidays. The following six holidays will be observed:
  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

STOLEN/DAMAGED CARTS
If your cart is damaged through normal wear and tear, it will be repaired or replaced at no cost to you. If it is damaged through normal wear and tear and is beyond repair we will replace the cart at no cost to you.
Report Stolen carts to the Police Department at (804) 732-4222 and notify the CVWMA Refuse Hotline at (804) 425-0500 if you would like a replacement.

Brush and Limbs (smaller than 3” in diameter and cut in lengths of 4’ or less) securely tied in bundles not exceeding 75 lbs. Will be picked up with regular trash collection. Larger amounts should be scheduled for bulk pick up by calling (804) 733-2415. Bulk pick up is limited to 4 cubic yards per month. We MAY NOT collect all of a pile in one trip, but rather spread it over two or three collection days.
