2019 Let's Move Summer Program 

Let’s Move Summer Program 2019

Petersburg Recreation Let's Move Summer Program will operate  July 1 - August 16, 2019, Monday thru Thursday, 9:00-4:30PM.  The program  will engage city youth between the ages of 6 to 13 in interactive activities that will focus on fitness, health, reading, gardening, golf, fishing, etiquette & chivalry sessions and so much more. You can register your child now until June 20, 2019. The program is for Petersburg Residents only and it is a free program.  Breakfast/Lunch will be served daily.  Transportation will not be provided to and from the camp site.  Parents must bring copy of the child's most recent report card. Summer Fun = Swimming at the Farmer Street City PooL

2019 Farmer Street Pool

The Farmer Street Pool will open Saturday, May 25, Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27, (weekends only until June 16, 2019). Regular Pool Hours beginning June 17, 2019, Monday thru Saturday, 12pm-6:00pm.  The pool will close each day from 2:00-3:00PM for Lunch.

Holiday Hours - 

Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2019, 12PM-6:00PM

Independence Day,  Thursday, July 4, 2019, 12:00-6:00PM

Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2019, 12:00-6:00PM

All pool participants must complete a registration form. Ages 18 & over will present Identification upon entering the pool site.

Ages 15 & over must show a valid state issued ID. We will need parent ID and signature for ages 14 & under. All participants 8 & under most be accompanied by an adult at all times. Participants 8 & under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  

All users must wear swim wear (swim shorts with string, bathing suit). Please read all posted materials at the pool concerning safety, rules and pool etiquette. The ratio of Lifeguard to pool users: 1:25. Food and beverages are not allowed  (exception) plastic water bottles and sports drinks are allowed.

Johnny E. Rowe, Sr. Youth Baseball Program  

Petersburg Youth Baseball

The Johnny E. Rowe, Sr. Little League Baseball Program serves as a foundation for Skill Development, Character Development and Life Skills for the youth in Petersburg.  Johnny E. Rowe, Sr  coached many of our city youth and served as Father to many of young males in the City of Petersburg. His legacy of dedication, caring, and love of baseball will forever be etched in the minds of so many Petersburg residents both old and youth. 

Playground Beautification Day 


Petersburg  Public Schools in partnership with Petersburg Recreation will host a Lakemont Elementary School “Playground Beautification Day” at Lakemont Elementary School, 51 Gibbons Avenue on THURSDAY, June 27, 2019, 8:00AM-12:00PM. (Change of date due to weather forecast). 

Painting of playground equipment and mulching of the playground. All equipment and materials will be provided - WE JUST NEED YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION TO ASSIST US!  What a great community service project.

Petersburg (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated  in partnership with Petersburg Recreation Department

The Petersburg (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated announced the newly established NSBE, JR (National Society of Black Engineers).  The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) program is designed to stimulate the interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, or STEM. The goal is to encourage students in grades K–12 to attend college and pursue technical degrees.  The Recreation Department was very instrumental as the Recreation After School Students were the inaugural members. 

NSBE, JR (Petersburg Links and Petersburg Recreation Partnership

Virginia FeedMore Program (Virginia Food Bank) - provides HOT nutritional  meals daily to increase the intake of healthy meals received during the "Out of School Time".

Golden Girls Gardening Program - provides gardening classes for the After School Students both hands on instruction as well as classroom instruction.  In addition the Golden Girls offer an Etiquette and Chivalry Class for the students.

Optima Health (Health Education Awareness Program) W.H.A.T. Matters (W-Well Being, H-Health, A-Attitude, T-Thoughts) - students will engage in physical fitness competitions, Art Expression, and Open Mic Discussion concerning WHAT Matters.
